Christmastime in Colorado
Yesterday was another snowfall!
Only one week left til finals, and I have a 10 page research paper left to write. It’s about the moral and legal responsibility of a mining corporation to restore the mining site and combat groundwater pollution. Riveting, no?
I spend Wednesday eating spicy Rwandan food and making Christmas cards with my bible study for an orphanage in Krystel’s home village. She is taking them back with her when she goes home in a few weeks. She laughed when I drew a snowman – she assured me that none of the children knew what one was. That was really hard for me to believe!
My dorm mates and I also decked out the suite, and hung stockings for each girl.
Tonight is the Christmas concert. It’s been a real struggle playing again, considering my jaw is not healed and the retainer can’t really hold the force needed for the clarinet. But I love it, and I’m going to do my best.
I hope everyone else is feeling well and getting into the holiday spirit!
Wednesday was the only day this week I didn’t work out and wasn’t terribly mindful of my intake (foreign food was too tempting). I’ve actually noticed a slight weight gain this week – not sure if it means I’m gaining muscle, or that I need to up my workout.
Out
30 minutes cross-trainer – 290 cal
30 minutes weights – 90 cal

The stockings are very sweet. You know what’s funny? I lost 50 pounds by just being very mindful of what I eat and walking 115 blocks/5 miles a day. Doing that whipped me into shape. Yoga helped, too. I never bothered monitoring caloric burning.
@chicbananas - I actually do have a pedometer I try to wear every day. I average about 3 miles a day but sometimes reach 6 or 7. It’s great to know it adds up, congrats on your weight loss
And yes, everyone is already putting candy in the stockings, it’s fun
@sonnigenmai - Living in Manhattan helps because everyone who lives here ends up walking a lot. I do the 110+ blocks/5 miles for actual exercise with my dog, and then I end up adding a lot more when I just go out and do my stuff. It’s nice how it works out. I just bought my tree today; are you getting one for the dorm?
@chicbananas - Yes! I was actually going to buy one today, but forgot about the concert. I have a bright pink, 4-ft one picked out. My twin nieces hand-made me a box of glittery silver snowflakes I want to put on the tree. What about you?
@sonnigenmai - Just got mine. I have a bunch of lights, but no ornaments so I am going to head to the craft store to get some plain ones to decorate with glitter.
lol weight gain after you started working out means you’ve gained ‘water’ weight, as your body prepares and recovers from the exertion. Stop working out for a week and you’ll lose it all. It’s really quite surprising.
Also, you are so decorative. I got a poinsettia. And put it on my toilet. That was it.
